Nutrition Breakfast and Start Clinic

On Wednesday, July 12 we’ll all work on our starts—starting with some nutritional information at breakfast.  By popular TSA demand, we’ve asked a nutritionist to give our sailors and parents some specific information about how what we eat fuels our sailing.

At the start clinic, Green fleet sailors will cover the basics with LYC Coach MacKenzie McGuckin, RWB Opti sailors will work with LYC Coach Bernat Gali Bou and his Opti team, and Laser / 420 / Feva sailors will work with Sailing Director Watt Duffy and his team of coaches to try out new strategies and work with a larger fleet on the line.  Find out more about our LYC Coaching Staff here.

Please note: Lunch is not provided on Wednesday, July 12.  Breakfast and dinner are included for sailors.

Dinner with Luther Carpenter and Parent Social

We are delighted to welcome Luther Carpenter, US Sailing Senior Olympic Coach, as our guest for a very special dinner event.  Texas Youth Race Week has a proud tradition of involvement by top sailors including John Kolius who coached at the event for many years and presented his own N.G.U. (Never Give Up) award.  This event builds on that tradition.

Luther Carpenter has a long history on Galveston Bay waters, and is one of the friendliest guys to race against.  Beyond that, he has been an Olympic coach at US Sailing for over 25 years and has attended eight Olympic Games with Team USA. He is the most successful Olympic sailing coach in U.S. history, and one of the best in the history of the sport, having guided athletes to five medals in an unprecedented four different classes.  Learn a little more about Luther here.

While the competitors and coaches enjoy dinner and visiting with Coach Carpenter, all parents are invited to a social in the LYC bar area.  Relax! The week has just begun!

To learn more about Texas Youth Race Week history, listen to our oral history interview with John and Catherine Focke who have given so much to the event for many years.
